ABOUT ADDERALL

Adderall is a Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant. This medicine is made up of four salts of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. It is a controlled substance and only available at prescription. This indicates that it can result in psychological or physical dependency and has the capacity for misuse and abuse. Adderall is available in various strengths and forms. It is highly used to treat Attention-deficit hyperactivity and narcolepsy. However, some also used it to treat Bipolar disorder. However, this isn’t a common treatment method and may cause several side effects.

Patients with bipolar disorder often experience depressive episodes and have euphoric feelings and a sense of invincibility. Using stimulant drugs may ease these adverse effects and help the patient by increasing his energy, focus, and sense of strength. Many doctors prescribe Adderall as a stimulant drug because of its essential ingredient called Dextroamphetamine. The depressive symptom of bipolar disorder is seemed to be eased after the intake of Dextroamphetamine. A small study also shows positive signs; however, the effectiveness of psych stimulants and overall effect on bipolar disorder aren’t approved for the treatment medically. Some people may be prescribed stimulants like Adderall off-label to lift mood and increase energy during depressive episodes.

These include mood stabilizers, antidepressants, and drugs that relieve anxiety.

Better treatments for bipolar disorder:

LITHIUM

It is a mood-stabilizing drug and helps to control symptoms of acute mania and also effective at preventing the recurrence of periods of depression and mania.

Its common side-effects include weight gain and indigestion and can also affect your thyroid and kidneys. But it should be avoided in pregnancy if possible.

ANTIDEPRESSANTS

Antidepressants may help manage depression in bipolar disorder, but they can sometimes trigger manic episodes and reduce the risk of causing a manic episode.

It is essential to avoid other medications or alcohol, and it can also cause risk or birth effects while pregnant while consuming antidepressant medicine.

LIGHT THERAPY

A person should not undergo light therapy without properly discussing it carefully with their physician. Therefore, it’s important that a person has anti-maniac coverage while undergoing light therapy.

Light therapy is seen as the another stable and beneficial path to deal with seasonal depression in bipolar disorder.

CAN ADDERALL PERMANENTLY WORSEN BIPOLAR DISORDER?

Adderall can not only cause changes in your brain chemistry and function, but it may also lead to heart damage, digestive problems, and other unwanted side effects.
